Understanding Terms of CertainTeed Warranty
- CertainTeed has rebranded its former 30-year roofing products as “Landmark” and “Landmark Max Def,” now providing customers with a “Limited Lifetime Warranty.”
- The warranty provides 10 years of non-prorated coverage for manufacturing defects, including materials and labor. After 10 years, the warranty prorates on a 50-year schedule, with the roof maintaining 20% of its material value after 40 years.
- CertainTeed’s new Lifetime warranty covers defects affecting performance and aesthetic issues like staining and discoloration.
- The Algae-Resistance Warranty is 10 years non-prorated, offering more coverage than some other shingle brands.
- The Standard Wind Warranty starts at 110 mph with no special installation requirement and can be upgraded to 130 mph. CertainTeed Certified “Shingle Master Companies” and “Select Shingle Master Companies” can offer extended “SureStart Plus” warranties if using the “CertainTeed Integrity Roof System.”
- SureStart Plus Warranties offer 3 Star, 4 Star, and 5 Star SureStart Plus Warranty coverage, extending the standard 10-year non-prorated period to 20 or 50 years with 100% material and labor coverage against defects.
CertainTeed Integrity Roof System Components:
- CertainTeed Landmark/Landmark Max Def Shingles
- CertainTeed WinterGuard Ice and Water Shield (2 square roll) installed in the valleys and around roof penetrations
- CertainTeed Roofers Select Felt (4 square roll) or Diamond Deck Synthetic Underlayment (10 square roll). Only ASTM Rated underlayments are accepted by CertainTeed.
- CertainTeed Ridgevent: If the roof has ridgevent, CertainTeed Ridgevent is required to be installed. If not, adequate roof ventilation is required.
- CertainTeed Pre-Cut Ridge: Cedar Crest Ridge, Shadow Ridge, Mountain Ridge. CertainTeed XT5 3 Tab is also accepted on hips and ridges.
- We also offer 3 Star, 4 Star, and 5 Star Warranty coverage when installing a CertainTeed XT25 3Tab Roof.

Workmanship Coverage:
- 100% coverage is not present
- Misapplication of certain flashings is not covered
- Installer certification is not required (anyone can install)
- Tear-off costs not included
- Disposal costs not included
Peace of Mind:
- Wind covered up to 130 mph for category 3 hurricane wind speed is covered except for 3-tab shingles
- Warranty is transferable
- Free transfer option available
GAF Better System Warranty Information
Material Defect Coverage:
- 100% is covered for 50 years except for 3-tab shingles, which is for 20 years.
- The entire roofing system is covered
- Installation labour cost for a lifetime is covered except for 3-tab shingles, which is for 25 or 30 years
Workmanship Coverage:
- 100% coverage available for 2 years (this is generally offered by the contractor)
- 2 years of misapplication of certain flashings covered (this is generally offered by the contractor).
