Planning a roof repair or replacement project can be very costly. In fact, it’s probably one of the most expensive home remodeling projects you’ll ever take on, so it should be done carefully, starting with finding the right roof construction company.
To help you do that, make sure you look for these things first:
Legal Business Name
Getting a roofer’s legal business name is important because it’s easy to falsely represent yourself online. A little research can go a long way in finding the right contractor for hire. Don’t accept answers that seem unclear, and, when in doubt, just ask for proof, such as business permits and licenses.
Roofing insurance can get tricky as many states may require different levels of insurance depending on what type of contractor you are. Here in Texas, while it’s not required to have roofing insurance, it’s still needed to get a roofing license. That means your prospective roofing contractor should at least hold a $300,000 combined single limit general insurance liability policy.
If a roofer is hesitant over the phone when you ask this question, it may be a red flag, but there’s a possibility that the roofer isn’t lying. Don’t rule the company out just yet, and ask for a copy of the insurance liability policy via email.
Who Will Be in Charge of the Project Onsite
If you’re hiring a reputable roofing contractor, there’s a good chance the person may have more than one roofing project going on in one day. In fact, many larger roofing companies have a “project manager” whose sole focus is to make sure your roof is being installed in accordance with both local laws and manufacturer guidelines. Don’t agree to having any work done without a project manager even if you were told that the onsite roofers are experienced enough that they don’t need supervision.
